The Randell RDEL ELM9904 Freezer Defrost Element 120V 400W is designed to melt frost by creating controlled heat from a resistive coil that transforms electrical energy into thermal energy. It turns on during the defrost cycle of the freezer, letting current flow through it to melt the ice on the evaporator coil and drain away. The defrost control system on the unit turns power on and off according to the temperature feedback and timing to control the heating action.
