The Garland 227027-1 Flame Switch works by sensing the presence of a pilot flame with a thermal-detecting element that expands when hot. This mechanical extension causes an internal electrical contact to close, and the gas flows to the main burner. The component is normally attached to the pilot burner assembly to have close proximity to the source of ignition. It checks the states of combustion at all times and gives the mechanical input required to control the heating sequence during normal kitchen operations.
