The Lang 80401-02 LP Pilot Orifice controls the supply of liquid propane into the initial burner assembly by forcing the gas through an internal opening of a calibration. This is a regulated flow that maintains a constant flame size that is required to ignite the main heating system. The component is directly threaded into the starter gas line connection that is found in the combustion chamber of the furnace. The flame should be held steady and in place by proper installation with reference to the thermocouple or igniter.
