The Southbend 1683868 Thermocouple 18" 20-30mV 1980 Series is a temperature sensor that produces a small voltage signal when the sensing end of the system is hot, and the voltage is proportional to the temperature at the junction. When the temperature rises or falls, it generates a variation of millivoltage, which the control system uses to control the burner. It is installed in the flame or heat stream of compatible gas equipment, usually close to the pilot or main burner where precise temperature measurement is required. When it does not provide the signal range needed when used normally.
