How do you troubleshoot the common problems of your Southbend convection ovens?

Here, we have a list of every issue and the solutions to each one.

The oven cannot maintain proper temperature:

  • Faulty calibration: The oven may not be calibrated properly. Following the directions in your unit's operation handbook, calibrate the temperature.
  • Bad ventilation: The kitchen may lack proper ventilation. To ensure appropriate operation, check the ventilation hood.
  • Defective temperature control or a probe: Contact an authorized service professional to inspect the temperature probe and control. If either is damaged, have the component replaced right away by a certified technician.

The blower motor is not turning on:

  • Zero incoming power: Verify that the device is turned off and unplugged from the outlet. Check for blown fuses or a breaker that needs to be reset if neither of them is the issue.
  • Faulty motor: A qualified technician must replace the motor if power is provided but it won't turn.
  • Incorrect contractors or wiring: The blower motor may not come on due to loose wire connections or malfunctioning contactors. Have a qualified technician examine and resolve the problem.
  • Defective shut-off switch: The shutdown switch is where the majority of the power is supplied. To have continuity verified or to fix the problem, get in touch with a licensed technician.

Below are problems found in only gas convection oven models:

The warm surface ignitor doesn't glow red:

    • The power switch is not powered: Whether the power is turned off at the power switch, check to see if the power cord is unplugged. Verify for switch continuity when the switch is down by having a qualified technician do so if the cord is connected in.
    • Ignitor not receiving electricity: The ignition module may get little or no electricity.
    • The ignitor has failed: Examine the ignitor for any cracks or breaks as these can prevent a machine from starting properly. If you see any damage, have the component replaced by a trained expert.
    • Inadequate electricity for the transformer: Have a qualified technician examine the transformer's power supply.
    • Blower motor not working properly: When the power switch is turned on and it is necessary to heat the environment, the motor should start. Contact a certified technician if this isn't functioning properly.
  • Temperature regulation not requiring heat: Check for continuity if the temperature control does not demand heat. The control may have to be changed if it is broken.

Burners end after a short while:

If the burners light up briefly before going out, try lighting them three more times before they lock out. It is caused by a malfunctioning flame switch or a faulty gas valve.

 Burners won't light up:

  • The gas valve has no power: The gas valve ought to be receiving electricity from the ignition box. To inspect and fix the problem, get in touch with a licensed specialist.
  • Faulty primary gas solenoid: Whenever the main gas solenoid is damaged or broken, have a trained technician replace it.
  • Cutoff valve closed: Verify that the manual shutdown valve is shut. To assist the thermostat in ordering heat and open the valve.
  • Gas valve closed: Verify that the gas valve's manual valve is closed. If so, turn on the valve.
  • Misplaced hot surface ignitor: The front of the back burner should have the hot surface ignitor. If the ignitor is in the incorrect location, move it.
  • Defective ignition module: If the ignition module is damaged, have a certified technician replace it.

The oven is unable to keep a stable temperature:

  • Gas pressure is too low: For natural gas and propane, the unit needs a manifold water column pressure of 7 inches and 11 inches, respectively. You might need to speak with your neighborhood gas provider about the facility's gas supply if that isn't the problem.
  • A short gas supply line: Undersized gas supply lines may prevent the oven from maintaining the desired temperature. The ID gas line needs to be 3/4" in diameter.

Only the burner adjacent to the igniter is lit:

  • Burner and orifice out of alignment: The unit's burner and orifice should be adjusted. The burner's core should be able to receive a gas injection from the orifice.
  • Blocked burner orifices: Ignition can be impacted by dirty burner orifices. If they're filthy or clogged, make sure to clear them out.
  • Gas pressure is low: For natural gas and propane, the unit needs a manifold water column pressure of 7 inches and 11 inches, respectively. The facility's gas supply may need you to get in touch with your neighborhood gas supplier.

Important Southbend convection oven parts and accessories are given below:

 1) Southbend oven igniter: When it comes to heating your gas oven, the igniter is a crucial component. Without a gas oven igniter, the oven won't be able to generate heat because it operates by sparking and heating the gas it emits.

2) Oven pilot: Gas is released to the main burner when you switch on the appliance, and the pilot light ignites that gas to turn it on and produce heat. The oven pilot is often positioned at the back of the oven; to change the height of the pilot flame, turn a screw on the pilot ignition mechanism

3) Southbend oven safety valve: A bimetallic strip within the gas oven safety valve warms as the igniter gets hotter. The bimetallic strip unlocks the valve when the igniter achieves operational temperature, allowing the gas to flow and ignite as it passes over the heated surface.

5) Southbend oven door switch: For various reasons, the oven door switch is crucial. First, it affects how the oven light functions. For many ovens, unless the oven light switch is turned on, the door switch turns the light on when the oven opens and shuts it off when it closes. Furthermore, the cleaning function may be turned off if the door is opened because the door switch informs the oven whether it is safe to use it.

6) Oven element: When you turn on your electric oven, the coils at the top and bottom begin to heat up and light red. These coils are known as oven elements or heating elements.
