Dishwasher Impeller

The dishwasher drain impeller is responsible for forcing the water out of the dishwasher and through the drain hose. The impeller is typically made of plastic and is shaped like a propeller. As the dishwasher's motor turns the impeller, it creates a suction that pulls water through the dishwasher's drainage system and out of the appliance.
