Which element is used in an electric heater?

Electric heaters are used to heat the water for various purposes. In electric heaters, there will be a heating element called Nichrome. Nichrome plays a major role whereas 80% of nichrome is used as the major element in heating the substance. Electric heaters are made in such a way that they are highly resistible in high temperatures. The copper wires are used as their good conductors for electricity and heat. Nichrome generally does not oxidize at high temperatures as that is the main heating element. 

The most common elements used in the electric heater are nickel-chromium alloy, iron-chromium-aluminum alloy, molybdenum silicide, and silicon carbide. These elements have resistance to operate or bare at high temperatures, as they have high resistance power. Whereas,  there are other elements, as well in the composition such as graphite, molybdenum, tungsten, and tantalum. 

The heating element converts the electrical energy into thermal energy or makes the substance hot in simple words. This process is called Joule heating. In simpler form, when current is passed in the substance the carriers inside the substance will be changed to heat and remove any kind of ions or atoms. An electric heater is must-have equipment everywhere, as it is always useful in all forms of converting the substance or making it warm.

Troubleshooting of heating element

When the heating element doesn’t work, the water will not be heated or will remain lukewarm. When the substance does not reach the heating element the substance or the elements do get heated. In the electric element, there should be a continuous flow of electricity if there is no electricity flow then the rod should be replaced. To troubleshoot the heating element will be using the Ohm meter which has two thongs. Set the Ohm meter to a particular temperature depending upon the device. If the Ohm meter readings have fluctuations then it’s set to be good. If there is constant reading and there are no fluctuations then it is time to change the heating element. Before performing this test ensure that there is no power supply and all the plugs are disconnected. If you are removing any couple of screws make sure you replace them with the same, do not use different screws as they may not fit in properly.

They have resistance power. There is also a  risk in the electric heater, if the heater is highly heated there is a chance of breakage of the wire as the heat limit extends and the wire may burn.
