It works by controlling the volume of water that is going through the internal valve by rotating or lifting it to be able to adjust the volume and temperature to a fine degree. The stem is attached to the body of the faucet or valve and the stem is then connected to the handle mechanism. It is also used in the plumbing system as a way of providing a controlled supply of hot water to spouts.
