The Gold Medal 42279 Cotton Candy Machine Ribbon Replacement 5" 11 heats by passing electrical current through its resistance-rated element. The value of the ribbon resistance of 11 ohms defines the heat generated when current is passed through the ribbon when it is operating. It is inserted in the spinning head or heating unit of the cotton candy machine and positioned where the sugar melts and spins into strands. This replacement ribbon is applied in case the heating element malfunctions, burns out, or does not provide sufficient heat any longer to make cotton candy, returning it to normal operation.
