The Hoshizaki CAP-200-160 Start Capacitor is an essential part of refrigeration systems especially that use single-phase motors. It supplies a short current to the motor during starting and assists it to overcome the start current and attain the running current. This capacitor increases the voltage applied to the motor’s auxiliary winding giving rise to a revolving magnetic field to start the rotation of the motor. After the motor achieves a relatively steady speed of operation, the capacitor is often shorted out by a centrifugal switch.
