The McCall MCC17396 Defrost Timer 8 hour/20 minute 120V 60Hz is used to turn electrical power to the refrigeration system between cooling and defrost modes on a predetermined schedule. It also advances its own internal timing system to initiate defrost cycles after the designated cooling time has elapsed to help in regulating the quantity of frost on evaporator coils. This timer is fitted in the control part of the compatible refrigeration equipment. Defrost timer is normally used in commercial systems, which require frequent defrosting to maintain effective cooling.
