The Southbend SOU1183200 Hot Surface Ignitor is a component that heats an element to extremely high temperatures when electrical current is passed through it which causes the element to glow and start burning gas in a cooking part. The glowing surface enables the burner to ignite without a separate spark, and the system starts working normally as the current flows. It is placed in the burner chamber where the air and fuel are mixed up and the hot surface can contact the gas stream.
